Diary Entry

After tropical temperatures on the coast of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, we are surprised at how cool the mountains in the highlands are. We continue our journey and stop at a sanctuary for the famous Galapagos giant tortoises, the Galapaguera de Cerro Colorado.

Here we walk through a sparse forest of bushes and are always surprised when one of the big stones next to us suddenly starts to move.

Even though they are so big, we always overlook them. Except for the really big ones.

Tips and costs for the Galapagos Islands can be found on this page.

Like huge boulders, like huge peaceful dinosaurs, they tower between the short trees and sleep or slowly move in one direction.

We see the turtles in action for a few minutes before they take another long break to catch their breath.

It’s similar to a board game: each of the reptiles has five moves, then it’s the next turn. This is what it looks like when one turtle wants to approach another.

Of course, Leon wants to climb onto one immediately.

He gets an emphatic “zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz” from the turtle. He internalizes the sound immediately and repeats it whenever he sees a turtle in the future.

We continue our expedition. We drive to the coast of San Cristobál to see a different beach than Playa Mann and Punta Playa Carola, popular with sea lions and tourists. In contrast to the beaches near the city, nothing is happening at Puerto Chino. Except for sea lions.
