๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ท Kandovan, The snowy sand stone village

Diary Entry

We take a little trip to the mountains and luckily two of our friends accompany us. The old village of Kandovan is famous for its sandstone houses. People dug into the stone to cut out their houses. A remarkable number of people still live in Kandovan today;

however, most of the sandstone caves are now shops where the locals sell their handicrafts to (mainly Iranian) tourists. The area is still covered in snow, which we did not expect in Iran. But it is not uncommon in March so far north in the mountains.
