Diary Entry
We remember Curitiba as a place with wonderful experiences and a bad cold. We drive through the predominantly German-speaking region between Paraná and Santa Catarina. Along the way, we take care of a flat tire and the faulty electrical system.
On the way, we have lunch at a churrascaria. Like everywhere else, there’s a buffet, but also fresh meat fresh from the grill (churrasco) by the master chefs. Brazilians know how to cook meat!
Hungry? Churrasco!

Churrascarias can be found everywhere in Brazil

We reach São Francisco do Sul and explore the small, colorful coastal town. Many artists sell their pieces here or combine their exhibitions with a café. A thunderstorm looms on the horizon. Due to severe thunderstorms and flooding, we’ve already deviated from our course.
We actually wanted to get further north to the coast and follow it south past Pontal do Sul. But the news reports there said to stay away from the area.

That small place is a dream

We stroll through the small town and browse the shops. We drink hot chocolate until the sky turns dark.
It’s going to rain soon, or worse. We should be at our overnight accommodation before then.

Dark clouds announce a thunderstorm

The weather holds out longer than we expected. This allows us to see even more of São Francisco do Sul. There’s also a Sâo Francisco to the north, but it’s on the other side of the bay, tiny, and there’s no bridge or ferry there.
We find our Dusty again and prepare for departure. We’re now on a peninsula, also called Sâo Francisco. We plan to spend the night at a campsite right on a beach. Let’s go!
