Diary Entry

We set off early from Resistencia, and the route is quite monotonous. With little traffic, we drive north through the pampas. The roadkill along the side of the road reveals the diverse wildlife. We see many flattened opossums, capybaras, snakes, monitor lizards, and a coyote. Surprisingly, we also spot two lively rheas next to the road.

Argentinian right-of-way rules are still unclear to me. In some streets, right-of-way prevails, in others I always have the right of way… But there are no signs that help here. It was better in other countries, I think.

An hour between Resistencia and Formosa, we stop not far from the highway in a small town for a natural history museum, which I found on the promotional website for the province of Formosa as one of the attractions.

This attraction is quite small, and the museum director and cleaning lady seem shocked to have guests. The guest book shows a last entry from three weeks ago.

The director recovers from her shock and is happy to explain something to us. The exhibit features fossils from the Ice Age, found in layers of earth washed out by the Rio Negro. There are some bones, replicas, and pictures of these prehistoric creatures on display.

Leon enjoys these strange things, as well as a few stuffed contemporary species, such as jaguars, caimans, deer, monkeys, and more. Leon enjoys seeing these animals up close and marveling at the images of these Ice Age animals, which seem like mythical creatures.

We take a few selfies with the nice lady at the museum.

We kiss each other goodbye, then continue on to Formosa.
