Diary Entry
We follow the route, which is also called the “Golden Ring“. This is the most popular route for anyone visiting Iceland as it includes some of the island’s most spectacular sights.
One of these sights is the Þingvellir (spoken: Thingvellir). Here a large gap opens the rocks, which is nothing less than the boundary between two continental plates.
The Vikings had probably already recognized that this place was something special and held their “Thing” here on a regular basis, a kind of democratic assembly where justice was decided and even new kings were elected.
For us, the place shines in as much sun as Iceland can offer. There is still a lot of snow and some roads are still impassable. Good for us because that means fewer tourists.
