My Travel Diaries of

Italy

Summary

Currency: Euro
Capital: Rome

Drink like a local: Ramazzotti, Espresso, Cappuccino (only in the morning!)

Special facts:

  • Rome—the Eternal City, and the eternal Roman Empire—are the foundations of today’s great Western countries. There are few superlatives that do justice to the significance of this story.
  • Be careful when ordering in an Italian restaurant: it can easily happen that tourists are asked to pay for cutlery and other, actually normal, little things.
  • We know the mafia from television. But even today, these criminal family organizations still hold the reins, especially in the south of the country.
  • Don’t try to order a “Pizza Hawaiia” (with pinapples topping) in Italy.
  • Don’t try to order a cappuccino after breakfast time.
  • Don’t try to chop spaghetti on your plate.
  • The selection of popular coffees, pasta, antipasti or pizza – Italian cuisine has achieved what the Roman army could not: it has conquered the whole world!

Travel Diaries

Italy has always been said to be the Germans’ favorite travel destination. Even the wild Germanic tribes loved to pay friendly visits to warm Italy and its cities, bringing home souvenirs.

As a child, I actually visited Italy quite often, whether in the beautiful Alpine region, in breathtaking South Tyrol, the area around Genoa, the dream destination of Tuscany, legendary Venice, or, of course, the eternal city of Rome.

The list of the world’s most popular tourist destinations goes on.

Apulia, Naples, Abruzzo, Calabria, Piedmont or the islands of Sicily and Sardinia – Italy is full of places of longing.

These visits will remain undocumented, except for a few family photos. Since then, I’ve been more drawn to the world than to this beautiful neighborhood. But I’ll make up for that in the future, and I’ll also explore this beautiful country once again from the perspective of a veteran traveler. Due to the proximity of my home, there will be frequent extended trips to Italy.
