๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฟ At the Foot of the invisible Kilimanjaro

Diary Entry

We spend a few days couchsurfing in the small town of Tengeru and learn a lot about life in Tanzania. The town is not far from Arusha, the gateway to the famous national parks and the great Serengeti, which we also traveled here for.

The guide of our upcoming safari invites us on a special tour to the nearby “hot springs“. However, he does not drive himself.

Another driver, with African tolerance of the time, comes to us just before 11 a.m. instead of 9 a.m. There is also a Portuguese woman in the car. Shangwe is allowed to come along too.

We drive for what seems like an eternity and only find out along the way that we are only going to a waterfall at the foot of Kilimanjaro.

Surprise! – Waterfall!

Where is Kilimanjaro?

– You are standing on it!

We hike through the African jungle. It is very green around the large volcano. The mountain attracts moisture and creates clouds that rain down directly here. Unfortunately, this means we cannot see the size of Kilimanjaro, which is hidden from us behind the clouds.

We see chameleons in the trees, which can only be spotted when they sit on a relatively bare tree and thus stand out from the background.

Unfortunately, the mighty Kilimanjaro is behind the clouds

Finally we reach the Materuni waterfall. Uwe immediately lets everything fall off and goes swimming while I take a few photos. There are too many tourists besides us in this beautiful place.

The waterfall is truly remarkable and about forty meters high. We spend some time here before heading back to the car and continuing on to an oasis.
