Diary Entry
When I leave Liechtenstein, a border station makes it clear that I am coming back to the European Union. It’s been a very long time since I was in Austria.
In fact, I can’t remember the last time I was here. I must have been very young.
Servus, Österreich!
It is incredibly tragic to know that this small country was once a huge empire and one of the strongest powers in Europe. But I can still see the beauty of Austria before me.
These small towns like Feldkirch, Bregenz and Dornbirn are really outstandingly beautiful. Unfortunately, during my short stay I only pay a far too short visit to these cities.
It is already late lunchtime and time for food when I reach Dornbirn. Always following my nose, I immediately reach the iconic market square with its
Pfarrkirche St. Martin, the Feuerstein Haus and the Rotes Haus I decide on the red house restaurant and eat Kaiserschmarrn with cherries and drink Almdudler.
Food doesn’t get much more Austrian than this.
Even though it is so warm, maroni are already being roasted in the streets. I remember the chestnut trees in Ticino and can now well imagine where the chestnuts come from.
For me it continues with the tiger on my autumn Alpine expedition. Next I’m going to Bregenz.
The city on Lake Constance is also right on the border with Germany. I also have to figure out where I’m sleeping tonight.
